ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s energy regulator NEPRA has approved the imposition of fixed charges on domestic electricity consumers, a move affecting both protected and non-protected households, officials said on Tuesday.
The decision came after a government request to revise tariffs and fixed charges for domestic users.
Previously, fixed charges applied only to non-protected consumers using more than 300 units per month.
Under the new structure, protected domestic consumers using 100 units per month will pay Rs200, while those using 200 units will pay Rs300 in fixed charges.
For non-protected consumers, charges have been fixed at Rs275 for 100 units, Rs300 for 200 units, and Rs350 for 300 units.
Higher consumption slabs also saw adjustments.
Non-protected users consuming 400 units will now pay Rs400 instead of Rs200, 500 units will cost Rs500, and 600 units will attract Rs675.
Users with consumption between 700 units and above will pay fixed charges at Rs675, including a reduction of Rs325 for those consuming over 700 units.
The regulator said the revised charges aim to ensure financial sustainability of power distribution companies while maintaining a fair pricing mechanism for domestic consumers.
Officials said that the new fixed charges would be implemented immediately for all applicable households.
