NEPRA drops bombshell on electricity consumers

The National Electric Power  Regularity Authority (NEPRA) sanctioned yet another increase in electricity tariffs, instituting a quarterly modification of Rs1.7432 per unit for the upcoming three months.

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs4.13 per unit in the electricity tariff for November 2023 under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.

The decision will affect all consumers except for lifeline and K-Electric customers. The revised tariff will be applicable to the bills of January 2024, according to a notification issued by NEPRA on Thursday.

The NEPRA raised the hike in the electricity price on a plea of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).

Earlier, the NEPRA had raised Rs3 per unit while determining fuel costs for October 2023.

The NEPRA has been dropping bombshells, approving the hike demanded in electricity prices by power producers and CPPA. This continuous rise in electricity price is forcing consumers to rapidly switching to solar systems.
