NEPRA raises electricity price by Rs0.75 per unit for August bills

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs0.75 per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for June, according to a notification issued on Friday.

The increase will apply to electricity consumers across the country, including those served by K-Electric, and will be recovered through August electricity bills.

The tariff hike is lower than the Rs1.20 per unit increase sought by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which had submitted the request based on variations in fuel costs during June.

NEPRA had reserved its decision after conducting a public hearing on the CPPA’s petition. Following scrutiny and verification of the submitted data, the regulator approved a fuel cost adjustment of Rs0.75 per unit and issued the notification.

However, the increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, prepaid electricity users, or electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, which have been exempted from the adjustment.

The monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism allows electricity tariffs to be revised in line with fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in the power generation mix.
