Netanyahu says Iran tried to kill one of his sons: Sources

WEB DESK: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his two sons, but he did not identify which son was allegedly targeted or provide details about when or how the attack was planned.

Netanyahu made the claim Monday during a phone interview with military correspondent Noam Amir on Israel’s Channel 14, according to Arab News.

He described the incident as “incredible” and said Iran had targeted one of his sons, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Netanyahu appeared to link the alleged assassination attempt to the security arrangements provided to his family. He argued that security protection for his sons was necessary rather than a privilege, saying that without such protection, attackers could potentially succeed.

Security extended to Netanyahu’s family

The statement came after Israel approved extended security protection for Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, and their sons, Yair and Avner.

The decision reportedly provides continued protection for the family, including beyond a possible end to Netanyahu’s tenure as prime minister.

Netanyahu also said he had spoken with Shin Bet chief David Zini and requested appropriate security measures for candidates running for prime minister amid Israel’s ongoing political tensions.

However, no publicly disclosed evidence currently details the alleged Iranian operation. Netanyahu also did not specify whether Yair or Avner was allegedly targeted, according to the Times of Israel.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with Netanyahu continuing to describe Iran as a major security threat to Israel.
