Netflix has raised its subscription prices in the United States, with the increase set to affect both new and existing users in the coming weeks.
New subscribers will see the updated prices immediately from March 26, while current users will be notified before the changes take effect based on their billing cycle.
The ad-supported plan will now cost $8.99 per month, up from $7.99. Ad-free plans have increased by $2, bringing the standard tier to $19.99 and the premium plan to $26.99 per month.
The cost of adding extra members outside a household has also gone up, with add-ons now priced at $7.99 for ad-supported plans and $9.99 for other tiers.
With more than 325 million subscribers globally, the change is expected to impact millions of users, many of whom will see higher charges reflected in their next billing cycle.
Netflix said the increase comes as it continues to invest in new content and expand its offerings, including films, series and live events.
The streamer has recently added major titles and is pushing further into live programming, including sports and special events, as it looks to maintain its position in an increasingly competitive market.
For subscribers, however, the immediate impact is simple: higher monthly costs across nearly every plan.
