Netflix releases emotional ‘Stranger Things’ farewell documentary trailer

Netflix has released the official trailer for One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, an emotional behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling the making of the show’s fifth and final season.

Set to premiere on January 12, the documentary offers fans an inside look at the years of effort behind the Duffer Brothers’ generation-defining series, which concluded earlier this month after nearly a decade on screen.

Directed by Martina Radwan, the film follows the cast and creators throughout the final year of production. Radwan, whose previous work includes the Emmy-winning documentary Girls State, said she was grateful for the level of access she was given.

“Spending a full year on set with them was a true privilege,” Radwan said in a statement. “From the cast to their long-time collaborators, everyone welcomed me with remarkable generosity, openly sharing their personal and collective experiences from a decade of creative filmmaking.”

The newly released trailer opens with footage from the show’s final table read, as Ross Duffer reflects on writing the characters’ final lines. His brother Matt Duffer adds that typing the words “End Series” carried the greatest emotional weight. Scenes show cast members, including Noah Schnapp and Millie Bobby Brown, becoming visibly emotional during the moment.

The trailer also revisits early images of the young cast, cuts to scenes from the writers’ room and follows discussions around the fate of Eleven, with Brown heard saying in voiceover, “I’m not ready to let go.” David Bowie’s Heroes, previously used in the series finale, plays throughout the footage.

The documentary arrives amid ongoing online debate surrounding the show’s conclusion, with some fans speculating about missing or altered material from the final season.

The speculation follows recent fan theories claiming Netflix may be hiding a secret ninth episode of Stranger Things 5, a claim the creators have strongly denied.

The Duffer Brothers have pushed back against those claims in recent interviews, insisting the series ended exactly as intended and that Netflix did not interfere creatively. Matt Duffer said rumours about deleted scenes were unfounded, adding that only minor edits were made for pacing.

“The show has just grown so massive that there’s a lot of misinformation online,” he said. “At the end of the day, the work speaks for itself. It’s the show Ross and I wanted to make.”

In a joint statement, the brothers said the documentary was inspired by the behind-the-scenes films they watched growing up, particularly those released alongside The Lord of the Rings trilogy. “With the decline of physical media, that kind of storytelling has largely disappeared,” they said. “We wanted to bring it back.”

One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 is produced by Angus Wall, Terry Leonard and Kent Kubena, and serves as a final farewell to one of Netflix’s most successful and culturally defining series.
