Netflix’s ‘Age of Attraction’ bans the one question everyone asks on a first date

Age of Attraction

Netflix’s latest reality dating experiment Age of Attraction challenges one of the most basic rules of modern romance: contestants are not allowed to ask how old their potential partner is.

The new series brings together 40 singles aged between 22 and 60, asking them to form connections based purely on chemistry, compatibility and what producers describe as an “undeniable spark”. One topic, however, is strictly off limits. Participants cannot ask a single question about age.

The premise places Age of Attraction alongside the growing catalogue of dating experiments on the streaming platform, following the global success of shows such as Love Is Blind. In the new format, contestants must decide whether attraction and emotional compatibility can outweigh assumptions people often make about age.

When does Age of Attraction premiere?

Age of Attraction premiered March 11 on Netflix, with the first batch of episodes being released immediately on the platform.

Episode release schedule

Netflix will roll out the nine-episode season over three weeks:

  • March 11: Episodes 1–5
  • March 18: Episodes 6–8
  • March 25: Episode 9

Who are the hosts?

The show is hosted by content creators Nick Viall and Natalie Joy, who also co-host the popular podcast The Viall Files. The couple, aged 44 and 26, married in 2024.

Viall is already familiar to reality television audiences. He previously appeared on Seasons 10 and 11 of The Bachelorette, Season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise, and later starred as the lead on Season 21 of The Bachelor.

Why dating shows keep reinventing themselves

The arrival of Age of Attraction reflects a broader trend in reality television, where producers are increasingly relying on unusual twists to keep audiences engaged in an increasingly crowded dating-show landscape.

Streaming platforms have introduced a wave of experimental formats in recent years, from emotional blind-dating concepts like Love Is Blind to high-pressure compatibility tests designed to stand out in a saturated genre.

With its ban on discussing age, Age of Attraction aims to test whether romantic connections can survive without one of the first details people typically seek on a date.
