Punjab govt’s move to open schools, colleges faces criticism from netizens

no school holiday today in Lahore

LAHORE: Several social media users have taken to various platforms to voice their criticism against the Punjab government’s School Education Department and Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Mohsin Naqvi’s decision to reopen schools and colleges on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Online spaces, including Meta platforms and X (formerly Twitter), are currently inundated with posts opposing the government’s decision not to extend winter vacations for schoolchildren.

This criticism is particularly pronounced given the severe cold weather prevailing in Punjab.

Critics argue that opening schools under these conditions is ill-advised, as they fear it may lead to an increase in illnesses among children.

Despite widespread public demand and calls for extended holidays, the Punjab government stood firm on its decision, which has sparked dissatisfaction among a segment of netizens.

Some express frustration, questioning why the government couldn’t simply announce a short 3- to 4-day extension to safeguard the health of children from the harsh cold.

Certain netizens are skeptical about the government’s reassurance that students can wear “any warm clothing” to cope with the cold.

They argue that this allowance, coupled with the decision to open schools, lacks practicality and won’t contribute significantly to the well-being of school students.
