ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Rs10 billion defamation case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan moved forward as the Sessions Court Lahore recorded the statement of Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, who appeared as a witness for the prime minister.

According to the written order issued by Additional Sessions Judge Yilmaz Ghani from the previous hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer had requested additional time to conduct the cross-examination of Attaullah Tarar. The court accepted the request and scheduled the cross-examination for November 15.

In the defamation claim, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought Rs10 billion in damages, alleging that the former premier made false accusations of bribery against him in connection with the Panama Leaks case.

The court has directed Attaullah Tarar to appear again on the next date of hearing for cross-examination. The proceedings mark another significant step in the ongoing high-profile defamation battle between the ruling party and the incarcerated PTI founder.
