ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Pakistan is bracing for widespread rain, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms across much of the country from Wednesday through April 4 as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned of a strong westerly weather system approaching from the west.
The forecast comes amid other major developments, including diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions and assurances from the government on essential supplies.
The PMD said the approaching system will trigger rain and thunderstorms in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the possibility of hail in isolated areas.
Karachi and other parts of Sindh are expected to see rain and thunderstorms from April 2 to April 4. Mountainous areas of KP and Gilgit-Baltistan could also see snowfall. The department urged residents to stay alert for possible flash flooding, waterlogging and gusty winds, the Met Office said.
The weather alert follows recent reports of rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where at least 18 people were killed and dozens injured in storm-related events over the past week.
The coming days will test both Pakistan’s preparedness for severe weather and its diplomatic balancing act amid ongoing regional uncertainties.
