Security forces eliminate 22 Khawarij militants in DI Khan

WEB DESK: Security forces carried out two separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing nine militants linked to the India-backed faction Fitna al-Khawarij, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said today.

According to the military’s media wing, the first operation was conducted on December 5 in the Tank district following credible intelligence about the presence of militants. The forces “effectively targeted the terrorists’ hideout,” the statement said. A heavy exchange of fire ensued, during which seven militants were killed.

In a separate action in Lakki Marwat, security personnel launched another intelligence-driven operation. During the encounter, two more militants were killed, ISPR confirmed.

The military spokesperson said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. The individuals, described as being backed by India, were allegedly involved in attacks against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as in targeted killings of civilians.

ISPR added that search and clearance operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas to eliminate remaining members of the network operating under foreign sponsorship.

The military reiterated its resolve to continue such operations until the region is fully cleared of militants and all threats to public safety are neutralised.

President Asif Ali Zardari has praised Pakistan’s security forces for their timely and effective operations in Tank and Lakki Marwat. He lauded the bravery and professionalism of the personnel involved, highlighting their dedication to national security. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of both martyrs and wounded personnel, President Zardari affirmed that, with God’s grace, the resolve of the nation and its forces will remain steadfast until this threat is fully neutralised.

He also commended the forces’ courage in thwarting the malicious plans of these India-sponsored militants, emphasising that such actions strengthen the country’s safety and stability. The president’s remarks underline the government’s continued support for security operations and its recognition of the sacrifices made by those defending Pakistan against terrorism.
