M-Tag registration mandatory on motorways from today

ISLAMABAD: In a joint effort to enhance the efficiency of motorway travel, the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Motorway Police declared M-Tag registration mandatory for all vehicles accessing the motorways, effective from February 5, 2024.

According to an official statement by the Motorway Police, the decision aims to simplify the entry and exit processes at motorway points, ensuring a seamless flow of traffic.

In the first phase, the requirement for M-Tag registration was initially relaxed, but now it has become obligatory for every vehicle intending to use the motorways.

In response to this new regulation, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) and the NHA have issued important advisories to motorists. Firstly, drivers are urged to ensure the successful completion of their M-Tag registration process to avoid penalties.

To facilitate users in acquiring the M-Tag, customers are instructed to contact the customer care center, providing their vehicle registration book/card and ID card. This step ensures a smoother transition for motorists adapting to the new regulations.

The Motorway Police has introduced a recharge facility at toll plazas, offering a convenient method for users to maintain their M-Tag accounts. The recharge feature is expected to further streamline the process, providing a hassle-free experience for commuters.

Effective immediately, as of Monday, February 5, vehicles without the mandatory M-Tag will not be permitted to enter the motorways.

This enforcement is anticipated to improve overall traffic management and contribute to a more efficient and secure motorway experience for all users.
