PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged that his government had no alternative but to seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to revive the struggling economy.
The Prime Minister expressed his reluctance in accepting the IMF program, stating, “We accepted the IMF programme with a heavy heart, not willingly.”
During an address at a ceremony held in Peshawar Tuesday, Sharif emphasized the need to reform and restructure the industrial and agriculture sectors as crucial for the country’s progress.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the development of a comprehensive plan aimed at revolutionizing the agriculture, information technology, and mineral sectors.
While lamenting Pakistan’s decline in comparison to India’s economic growth, Sharif expressed his determination to reverse the fortunes of the nation.
In addition, Shehbaz extended his gratitude to the Saudi leadership for providing much-needed financial assistance in the form of a $2 billion deposit with the State Bank of Pakistan.
