WEB DESK: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is currently serving sentences in corruption cases and receiving medical care for an eye condition at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), reiterated Federal Minister Azam Nazir Tarar. He clarified that all legal and prison procedures are being conducted under the supervision of the appellate tribunal, which handles matters concerning convicted prisoners.
Medical Care Provided Under Proper Procedure
Tarar explained that Khan was brought to PIMS for treatment on his own request, despite the procedure being possible within Adiala Jail. The minister emphasised that the injections administered are standard and commonly used for eye circulation issues in people over 60. “After the treatment, the PTI founder’s health has improved,” Tarar said, adding that no surgery was performed. On January 29, however, Information Minister Atta Tarar had confirmed to media that Khan was taken for a procedure at PIMS.
Prison and Legal Oversight
He highlighted that under police custody, the area magistrate oversees prison matters, while the appellate tribunal addresses grievances of convicted prisoners, including medical requests and visitation arrangements. Tarar stressed that the superintendent of the jail and the court follow proper channels to ensure facilities for inmates, and any issues must be coordinated with the appellate tribunal.
Rana Sanaullah’s Prison Conditions
The minister also commented on the incarceration of Rana Sanaullah, noting that he was arrested in a baseless narcotics case and had suffered an eye stroke nine days before his detention. “Sanaullah was kept in extremely high temperatures exceeding 50°C and was forced to sleep on the foor,” he highlighted the difficult conditions inside the jail.
Tarar concluded that Imran Khan remains in good health and is receiving appropriate medical attention, with his treatments conducted according to standard protocols.
