SAO PAULO: Renowned American intellectual and linguist Noam Chomsky had been discharged from a hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he had been receiving treatment, the Beneficencia Portuguesa Hospital said, dismissing rumours about his death.
Chomsky, 95, will continue his treatment at home, the hospital added in a statement.
Earlier, his wife, Valeria Wasserman, dismissed media reports that Chomsky had died. “It’s false. He is well,” she said in an email to AFP.

The Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper earlier reported that Chomsky was admitted to the hospital in the city after a stroke a year ago left him with difficulty speaking and moving the right side of his body. The couple live in Sao Paulo.
Chomsky gained prominence in the 1950s with his theory that the ability to form structured language is innate.
He has authored over 100 books on Middle Eastern conflicts and geopolitical issues and is a noted activist on various issues including US intervention in Vietnam, labour rights, and the environment.
