Notorious ‘Encounter Specialist’ Abid Boxer escapes police custody

LAHORE: Former police inspector and ‘encounter specialist,’ Abid Boxer, known for alleged threats against police officers, has escaped police custody.

DSP CIA Iqbal Town, Muhammad Ali Butt, arrested Abid Boxer at his residence in Model Town, Lahore, where he was wanted for intimidating senior police officers.

During his transportation from Model Town to the CIA Allama Iqbal Town, Abid Boxer managed to escape custody when he and his associates overpowered on-duty police officers, snatching government rifles.

Abid Boxer, associated with extrajudicial killings during his police service, has a history of controversy. His family has raised concerns about his arrest and escape, including the blocking of his mobile number.

Punjab Police reshuffled

Initially arrested by the Lahore Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Abid Boxer’s escape has generated conflicting reports, causing suspense among the public.

Some reports suggested that senior police officers from the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) held discussions shortly after the reports of Boxer’s arrest and escape to ascertain the true facts.

Abid Boxer joined the police force in 1988, rising from an assistant sub-inspector to inspector. He had fled the country but was arrested in the UAE and extradited to Pakistan through Interpol in February of the previous year.

Family members have expressed worries about Abid Boxer’s safety, creating an ongoing and perplexing national story.
