Former Australian opener David Warner has landed in legal trouble back home in Australia, in an incident that has grabbed attention during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 season.
The 39-year-old, currently captaining Karachi Kings, was charged after failing a random breath test during a roadside check in Sydney’s Maroubra area on Sunday evening. According to police, Warner was stopped near a testing point and returned a positive result before being taken to the station for further examination.
A second test reportedly showed a blood alcohol reading of 0.104, placing him in the mid-range offence category.
Authorities have issued him a court notice, with the veteran batter set to appear at Downing Centre Local Court next month. The development comes during a short break in the PSL schedule, which Warner used to travel back to Australia.
Despite the off-field distraction, Warner has been in strong form as leader of Karachi Kings, guiding the side to three consecutive wins and helping them climb to second place on the table. The team is set to face Peshawar Zalmi in their next fixture at Karachi’s National Stadium, where all eyes will be on how their captain responds under pressure.
Although he retired from international cricket in 2024, Warner remains a major presence in franchise leagues worldwide. His recent performances, including a standout Big Bash League season where he topped the scoring charts for Sydney Thunder, underline his continued impact in T20 cricket.
With a decorated international career featuring over 15,000 runs and multiple World Cup titles, Warner’s legacy is firmly established – but this latest episode presents a fresh challenge off the field as he looks to refocus on cricket in the PSL.
