Oil tanker contractors’ association to meet Petroleum ministry amidst petrol supply suspension threats

RAWALPINDI: Negotiations are set to take place today between the Oil Tankers Contractors Association and government officials. A delegation representing the association is scheduled to meet with representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum to present their list of demands.

This development follows a recent strike called by the association, which led to the suspension of petrol supply after the September 18 deadline had passed. In a statement issued on Monday, the association announced the suspension of petrol supply to several regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the airport, Hazara Division, Attock, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Additionally, the supply of petroleum products to Rawalpindi and Islamabad was also halted.

Among their key demands, the association is calling for an increase in the share of transport vehicles utilizing the White Oil Pipeline to 65 percent. They are also advocating for fare hikes, the restoration of older vehicles, a 100 percent increase in local trips, and a 50 percent expansion in overloading trips.

The association emphasized that the suspension of petrol supply will persist until their demands are met. However, the strike was temporarily called off following assurances from the government.
