LONDON: Shein and Temu came face to face in a London court on Monday as their growing legal battle over copyright and competition intensified.
Shein accused Temu of copying thousands of its product photos to promote similar clothing items on its platform, calling it copyright infringement “on an industrial scale.”
The company said Temu was trying to benefit from Shein’s already established position in the fast-fashion market.
Temu denied the allegations and responded with a counterclaim, accusing Shein of using court cases to limit competition.
Temu is also seeking compensation after it had to remove thousands of product listings following a court order obtained by Shein.
During the hearing, Shein’s lawyer claimed Temu had dropped part of its defence related to nearly 2,300 disputed images created by Shein employees.
The case is part of a wider global dispute between the two fast-growing online shopping giants, which are already involved in legal battles in the United States.
Temu has also accused Shein of forcing suppliers into exclusive agreements, an issue expected to be heard in court next year.
The rivalry comes as both companies face increasing regulatory scrutiny worldwide, while new customs rules in the US and Europe could also impact their rapid international growth.
