Olivia Rodrigo has unveiled the title of her highly anticipated third studio album, and it’s already drawing attention for its unexpected phrasing.
The singer announced that her next project, titled You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, will be released on June 12, confirming that the album is now available for pre-order.
“My third album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is out June 12th. I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” she wrote.
New era begins
Rodrigo also shared the album’s cover art, which shows her wearing a pink dress while suspended mid-air on a swing, offering a first glimpse into the visual tone of the new era.
The announcement follows months of speculation, as the singer had been teasing new music in recent interviews and appearances.
Reuniting with key collaborator
The project sees Rodrigo reunite with producer Dan Nigro, who previously worked with her on her debut album Sour and its follow-up Guts.
Both albums were commercially successful and helped establish Rodrigo as one of the leading voices in contemporary pop.
‘Sad love songs’ and London influence
In a recent interview with British Vogue, the 23-year-old shared that the new album will include “sad love songs”.
“I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them,” she said.
Rodrigo also revealed that time spent in London influenced the record, describing parts of the album as carrying “London vibes” inspired by her experiences in the city.
Anticipation builds among fans
The announcement comes amid growing anticipation for Rodrigo’s next era, with fans closely following clues about new music in recent months.
i have a bad feeling about this era, she’s ditching all the things that make up her brand and that rarely works https://t.co/T8EWYvZ4o7

the album cover is very much strikingly clever. Olivia Rodrigo completely switched it up for her third album. This makes me even more curious about the music, although the album title seem pretty sad, you kind of wonder if the music is more nuanced. as it seem she was writing sad… pic.twitter.com/3jvTmcvdtZ

With a confirmed release date now set, attention is likely to turn to upcoming singles and further details about the project in the weeks ahead.
