PESHAWAR: An explosion at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar, left one official martyred and two others injured, police confirmed.

According to initial reports, the blast was caused by a short circuit, which triggered an explosion inside the building. The impact damaged a portion of the police station.

A heavy contingent of police immediately reached the scene, cordoning off the area and shutting down University Road for traffic as investigations began.

City Police Chief (CCPO) Peshawar, Mian Saeed, stated that the suspects who had been held at the CTD station were safely transferred to the CTD headquarters. He added that the incident could not, at this stage, be termed a terrorist attack.

Rescue teams shifted the injured officials to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while bomb disposal experts and forensic teams are examining the site to determine the exact cause of the explosion.

POLICE CONSTABLE COMMITS SUICIDE

Meanwhile, in Dera Ismail Khan, a police constable committed suicide by shooting himself with his pistol in Haqqanwaz Park, within the limits of Thana City. The reasons are not known, Rescue services sources said.

The deceased was a constable in Dera Police. The Thana City Police took the body into their custody and started an investigation after collecting more evidence, police sources said.
