Operation Epic Fury: PM reviews security situation amid US-Israel attacks in Iran

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the country’s security situation in light of escalating regional tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.

Field Marshal Asim Munir and federal ministers, along with senior civil and military officials, attended the meeting.

Participants conducted a detailed assessment of recent developments, including cross-border incidents between Pakistan and Afghanistan and broader regional threats.

Officials noted that South Asia is experiencing heightened instability following Iran’s retaliatory actions, referred to as “Operation Wa’d-e-Sadiq Four,” in response to joint US-Israel attacks, which they named Operation Epic Fury.

Discussions focused on Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace, alongside a review of ongoing border security measures, including “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq” along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The meeting also included briefings on internal security arrangements at sensitive locations across the country. Additionally, authorities reviewed plans for the safe evacuation of Pakistani citizens from Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs outlined ongoing efforts to facilitate evacuations via Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz earlier said that the government and the people of Pakistan are sharing their sympathies with the people of Iran in their hour of grief and sorrow. In this moment, Pakistan extends the most sincere condolences on the martyrdom of His Eminence Ayatollah Khamenei, the premier said in his X statement. He added Pakistan expresses concern over the violation of the norms of international law [amid US-Iran joint attack on Iran]. He added, “We pray for the departed soul. May Allah Almighty grant patience and strength to the Iranian people to bear this irreparable loss”.

PM Shehbaz adjourns Russia Visit

The premier has postponed his official trip to Russia scheduled for the upcoming week in view of the prevailing internal and regional situation. The prime minister’s visit has high significance for advancing bilateral relations between the two countries, a statement shared on the Government of Pakistan X handle said, adding, however, that it has been deferred due to the recent tense circumstances. “The new date of the visit will be announced later after mutual consultation,” the statement added.
