Owais Leghari meets AIIB delegation to discuss investment in Pakistan’s power sector

Energy Minister Owais Leghari on Wednesday met with a delegation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), discussing investment opportunities in Pakistan’s energy sector, transmission system, and renewable energy.
During the meeting, Owais Leghari said that Pakistan offers significant investment potential in North-South transmission infrastructure.
He added that the government is actively working on the digitalisation of the power sector and the installation of modern AMI meters.
He said that a phased plan is underway for the installation of around 10 million smart meters, with approximately 1.5 million modern meters already installed in the initial phase.
The minister also added that battery energy storage systems and transmission lines are among the government’s key priorities.
The AIIB delegation expressed strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s energy sector. According to Konstantin, the bank currently has a potential investment pipeline of around $100 to $150 million.
The bank will further evaluate financing opportunities in renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and transmission projects.
