Pak-India match: ICC accepts Pakistan’s stance after successful talks with PCB and BCB

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has accepted Pakistan’s stance following successful negotiations with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), forgiving any of the expected fine on the Bangladesh team following its denial to participate in the T20 World Cup 2026.

The development marks the end of a tense phase in international cricket relations and underscores the ICC’s preference for dialogue and cooperation over confrontation.

According to an official of the ICC, discussions among the three stakeholders remained positive and constructive throughout, with the body acknowledging Pakistan’s position and agreeing to move forward on terms that prioritise the long-term interests of the game.

As part of the outcome, no financial penalty will be imposed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board, despite Bangladesh’s absence from the World Cup, a decision the ICC described as disappointing but manageable through mutual understanding.

The ICC chief executive expressed regret over Bangladesh not taking part in the World Cup, noting that fans and players were deprived of a major global stage. However, the governing body reaffirmed its confidence in Bangladesh’s ability to host international events and announced that the BCB will be awarded hosting rights for one ICC event between 2028 and 2031.

The statement also clarified that the BCB retains the right to approach the dispute resolution committee if required, ensuring that all parties continue to operate within a transparent and fair framework. At the same time, the ICC confirmed it will continue working closely with the BCB to improve future opportunities for players and cricket fans in Bangladesh.

All stakeholders agreed that the central objective of these negotiations was to protect the integrity and credibility of international cricket. Emphasis was placed on maintaining unity within the global cricketing community, with the ICC, PCB, and BCB committing to sustained dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect.

The resolution not only reflects Pakistan’s successful advocacy of its position but also reinforces a broader message: that the best interests of cricket are served through consensus, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the spirit of the game.
