ISLAMABAD: The ICC T20 World Cup is upon us, and cricket fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the showdown between Pakistan and India on June 9. However, the excitement has been overshadowed by controversy, as ticket prices for the match have soared to an astonishing $20,000.
Lalit Kumar Modi, the founder and former commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) over these exorbitant prices.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Modi accused the ICC of profiteering at the expense of fans, branding it a “council of crooks.”
“It was a shock to know that ICC Diamond Club tickets for the World Cup match between Pakistan and India were being sold for up to $20,000 per seat,” Modi wrote. “This World Cup in the US is supposed to promote the game and attract fans, not to earn profit from ticket money.”
Modi’s criticism highlights the growing concern among fans and cricket enthusiasts about the commercialisation of the sport, especially during such a prestigious tournament.
The ICC T20 World Cup kicks off on June 2, co-hosted by the United States and the West Indies. The tournament opener will feature the host USA facing off against Canada in Dallas.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash is set to take place on June 9 at Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York.
