RAWALPINDI: Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe are set to contest a historic seven-match T20I tri-series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from 18 to 29 November — the first-ever T20I tri-nation event to be held in Pakistan. The tournament will begin with Pak vs Zim on 18 November.
Each team will feature in four league matches before the top two sides progress to the final on 29 November. All fixtures will start at 6pm PST, with toss scheduled for 5:30pm.
Under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, Pakistan enter the Pak vs Zim opener in strong T20I form. Earlier this year, the Greenshirts reached the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup final in the UAE, defeated South Africa 2–1 at home, and swept Bangladesh 3–0 in Lahore. Most recently, Pakistan hosted a full bilateral series against South Africa, drawing the Tests 1–1, winning the ODIs 2–1 in Faisalabad, and completing a 3–0 whitewash over Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha said the Pak vs Zim start provides a timely platform to refine plans ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next year.
“The tri-series comes at an ideal time for us. It allows the group to play consistent cricket against two competitive sides and further fine-tune our T20I strategy. We have shown encouraging signs in recent months — winning the tri-series in Sharjah, reaching the Asia Cup final, and producing strong white-ball results against South Africa and Sri Lanka. The momentum from the ODI series against Sri Lanka is something we aim to carry into this tournament. Rawalpindi fans have backed us brilliantly and we expect quality contests throughout.”
