Pakistan announce squad for white-ball series against West Indies

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced the national squad for white-ball series against West Indies, comprising three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan will continue to lead the side in the ODI format, while fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and star batter Babar Azam have also been included in the 16-member ODI squad.

The selectors have recalled experienced campaigners including Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and Fakhar Zaman for the series.

Middle-order batter Salman Ali Agha, power-hitter Khushdil Shah, all-rounder Hussain Talat, and left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz also feature in the squad for white-ball series against West Indies.

Promising talents Hassan Nawaz, Saim Ayub, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed, and Sahibzada Farhan have been included, along with wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris and left-arm pacer Sufiyan Muqeem.

In the ODI squad, other notable names include opener Abdullah Shafique, fast bowler Naseem Shah, and batting all-rounder Faheem Ashraf.

The white-ball series is seen as part of Pakistan’s ongoing preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the T20 World Cup cycle.

The campaign has taken on greater importance for Pakistan in light of their below-par performance in the recently concluded three-match T20 series against Bangladesh.

The Green Shirts narrowly avoided a clean sweep at the hands of the Bangla Tigers, who won the series 2-1.

Pakistan has traditionally enjoyed a commanding position over Bangladesh across all formats of the game.

However, the unexpected and unprecedented defeat in the recent T20 series has reignited calls for “drastic” changes — not only within the team but also at the policy level.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has, on multiple occasions, vowed to subject the team to a “major surgery,” promising reforms at every level. Yet, tangible results have yet to materialize.
