Pakistan announces squad

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan has revealed its playing eleven for the upcoming Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka.

The team has undergone five changes, with the inclusion of Mohammad Haris, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Junior, and Zaman Khan.

Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha, Faheem Ashraf, Nasim Shah, and Haris Rauf will not be participating due to injuries and other reasons.

Zaman Khan has been added to the Asia Cup squad in place of Naseem Shah.

This One-Day International will mark Zaman Khan’s debut in the international arena.

For the match against Sri Lanka, the team includes captain Babar Azam, vice-captain Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Haris, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Junior, and Zaman Khan.

The earlier significant defeat against arch-rival India has resulted in a significant decrease in Pakistan’s team net run-rate (NRR).

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s loss to India has transformed the upcoming match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on September 14 into a do-or-die clash for both teams. Both teams currently have 2 points on the points table, each having secured a victory against Bangladesh.

Whichever team emerges victorious in this high-stakes encounter will secure its place in the Asia Cup 2023 final on September 17.

In the Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka face-off, the Sri Lankan team has the advantage of playing on their home ground and holds a better NRR, which may prove advantageous in case the match is interrupted by rain.
