WEB DESK: Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation to tackle the rising threats of cybercrime and online fraud, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced in a statement shared on X.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Salahuddin Ahmed, on the sidelines of a United Nations summit in New York.
Emphasising the need for a renewed diplomatic push, Naqvi stated that both nations must seize emerging opportunities to further strengthen their historical bilateral ties.
According to the Radio Pakistan, both sides discussed the implementation of specialized training initiatives and exchange programmes for police officers to better equip law enforcement agencies against digital threats.
Regional stability and peace
Beyond bilateral security cooperation, the two ministers held detailed discussions on pressing geopolitical issues, including the ongoing US–Iran tensions and the volatile security situation across the Middle East.
During the deliberations, Bangladeshi Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed lauded Pakistan’s “constructive role” in establishing and maintaining regional peace.
Acknowledging the commendation, Naqvi credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their vital contributions toward sustaining peace and stability in the region.
UN summit engagements
Naqvi is currently visiting the United States, where he represented Pakistan at the high-level UN summit held on July 7 and 8. The international forum brought together interior ministers, police chiefs, and senior law enforcement officials from across the globe to deliberate on international security and enhance collective actions against transnational crime.
On the sidelines of the summit, the interior minister also called on UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s enduring efforts in global peace operations. Naqvi further extended Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach by holding bilateral meetings with his counterparts from China, Russia, and Sri Lanka to discuss mutual security cooperation.
