Pakistan braces for rain and snowfall as new weather system moves in

Heavy rain, snowfall alert issued for KP and Punjab

WEB DESK: A fresh weather system has entered the country, bringing widespread rain and snowfall to various regions, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced. Citizens are being advised to stay alert as conditions are expected to remain cold and wet over the coming days.

Earlier today, rainfall was reported in Quetta, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, and Pishin, while snowfall has already begun in higher-altitude areas including Kozhak Top, Sheila Bagh, and Loi Band. The weather department has forecast that rains will continue in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today through February 3, with snowfall expected in popular hill stations like Murree and the Galiyat region.

Northern areas are also likely to witness rain and snowfall. Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, Swat, and Kalam are expected to see intermittent showers and snow, while Islamabad and its surrounding areas will experience cold and partly cloudy weather. Light rain and snowfall are anticipated in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Chagai, and Gwadar, along with light snowfall in elevated regions. Some parts of Gilgit-Baltistan are also forecasted to receive light rain and snow.

Rainfall is expected to begin in Abbottabad and neighboring districts from today, prompting authorities to issue safety instructions for locals and tourists. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has urged people traveling to hilly areas to take precautionary measures against possible road closures and slippery conditions due to snow accumulation.

With temperatures set to drop further, residents are advised to stay warm and exercise caution, particularly in northern and high-altitude regions.
