Pakistan-Canada emphasise boosting trade and investment ties in 6th round of bilateral consultations

WEB DESK: In the sixth round of Bilateral Political Consultations held in Islamabad on Saturday, February 7, Pakistan and Canada reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic ties and exploring untapped potential across multiple sectors.

The Pakistani delegation was led by United Nations Special Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir and the Director General (Americas), while the Canadian side was represented by Assistant Deputy Minister (Indo-Pacific) Ambassador Weldon Epp and High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady growth of their bilateral relationship, noting that recent high-level interactions between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand have provided strategic momentum to the partnership.

The consultations focused heavily on enhancing trade and investment, specifically targeting sectors such as agriculture and agri-tech, mining, energy, climate change, artificial intelligence, and information technology. Officials emphasized the importance of supporting business communities and facilitating trade delegations to boost two-way trade volumes.

Beyond economics, the two nations discussed global and regional issues, including climate action and skilled workforce development. This round of talks follows a significant agreement made in late 2025 to facilitate the export of Canadian canola to Pakistan, signaling a practical shift toward more robust institutional linkages and a shared confidence in the future of the Pakistan-Canada partnership.
