Pakistan condemns Washington shooting, urges global action

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

WEB DESK: Pakistan on Friday strongly condemned the shooting incident in Washington D.C., in which an Afghan national allegedly opened fire on U.S. military personnel, killing and injuring several.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson expressed “deep sympathy” with the families of the slain soldiers, as well as with the U.S. government and the American people. The spokesperson added that Pakistan is praying for the speedy recovery of those wounded in what was described as a “targeted and unmistakable act of terrorism.”

The Foreign Office noted that Pakistan has itself endured numerous terrorist attacks over the past two decades and that investigations into several incidents have revealed links to networks operating from Afghanistan. The attack in Washington, the spokesperson said, serves as a stark reminder of the growing dangers posed by cross-border terrorism.

“This incident is a troubling indication of the re-emergence of terrorism at the international level,” the statement said, underscoring the need to highlight and strengthen global cooperation on counterterrorism.

Pakistan urged the international community to reactivate joint efforts against militant threats and reaffirmed its commitment to working with the United States and global partners to confront shared security challenges.

“Pakistan remains determined to combat terrorism in all its forms and stands ready to collaborate with the U.S. and the wider international community to address this collective menace,” the spokesperson added.
