WEB DESK: The Pakistan military has targeted and destroyed key oil storage facilities at Kandahar airfield in a series of overnight strikes, security sources confirmed on Saturday. The operation, conducted between the night of March 12 and the early hours of March 13, marks a significant escalation in cross-border tensions.
According to the Express Tribune, the official sources released video footage of the mission, documenting the precise moments the oil dump sites were hit. The footage reportedly provides “before and after” comparisons, showing the total destruction of the fuel infrastructure at the strategic airfield.
Targets linked to TTP and Taliban operations
Security officials alleged that the targeted oil reservoirs were being utilised by the Afghan Taliban and various proscribed terrorist organisations to fuel their regional operations.
The strikes are part of a broader military campaign titled ‘Operation Ghazab Lil Haq’ (Wrath for the Truth). According to the military’s assessment, these sites acted as logistical hubs for “Fitna al-Khawarij” a specific designation used by the Pakistani state for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other affiliated militant groups.
A sustained campaign against border insurgency
The military has signalled that these actions are not isolated incidents but a concerted effort to dismantle “terrorist hideouts and military installations” linked to cross-border instability. A spokesperson for the security sources stated that the operation remains ongoing and will continue until all “stated objectives” regarding national security are met.
This development follows months of diplomatic friction between Islamabad and Kabul over the presence of TTP sanctuaries on Afghan soil. The use of the ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ moniker suggests a shift towards a more aggressive, kinetic posture against external threats.
