WEB DESK: The Information Ministry has launched a scathing rebuttal against the Afghan Taliban, dismissing allegations that Pakistan violated a temporary holiday ceasefire as “frivolous” and “absolutely false.”
The diplomatic row follows the commencement of a five-day “temporary pause” in Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, which Islamabad initiated on Wednesday to mark the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, according to Dawn News.
In a stern statement issued via its official “fact check” channel on Friday, the ministry suggested the claims were likely manufactured by “detractors within the Taliban regime” seeking to create a “false pretext” for future cross-border terrorism.
A fragile peace under pressure
The brief cessation of hostilities was originally brokered following high-level diplomatic interventions by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkiye.
While Kabul had initially reciprocated by announcing its own suspension of military operations, the Afghan defence ministry issued a provocative statement on Thursday the first day of Eid in Afghanistan accusing Pakistani forces of breaching the agreement.
Islamabad has responded with a sharp warning, stating that any further “propaganda” or kinetic action from the Afghan side will result in the “forthwith termination” of the pause.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reiterated that Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, which was launched in late February following unprovoked firing from across the border, remains poised for an “immediate resumption with renewed intensity” should any drone attacks or terrorist incidents occur during the holiday period.
