ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has begun hosting a high-level diplomatic engagement as two of the three visiting foreign ministers have arrived in Islamabad for crucial talks.
Saudi Arabia’s Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud is expected to arrive shortly, while Türkiye’s Hakan Fidan and Egypt’s Badr Abdelatty have reached the capital.
The visits, confirmed by the Foreign Office, are taking place from March 29-30 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The ministers are set to hold detailed discussions focused on regional security, including efforts to ease rising tensions, and will also meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Officials describe Pakistan’s ties with Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt as close and “brotherly,” noting that the visit aims to deepen cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and strategic fronts.
The meeting is being viewed as a high-stakes regional summit, with reports suggesting discussions around a potential security framework informally dubbed “Green NATO,” designed to boost regional coordination and reduce reliance on Western military backing.
Pakistan’s role as host accentuates its positioning as a neutral diplomatic bridge, particularly amid tensions involving Iran and Western powers. Islamabad has reportedly facilitated quiet back-channel contacts and is offering itself as a platform for dialogue.
The urgency of the talks is heightened by Pakistan’s own concerns, including its long border with Iran, potential refugee pressures, and risks to energy supplies via the Strait of Hormuz. Following consultations with military leadership, including Asim Munir, authorities are pursuing a coordinated strategy that balances diplomacy with internal security and economic stability.
Overall, the summit reflects Pakistan’s dual objective: playing an active role in regional peace efforts while protecting its national interests amid a volatile geopolitical environment.
