Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and Iran, as two brotherly Muslim nations, share an unwavering commitment to promoting global peace and strengthening the unity of the Muslim Ummah.
He was speaking during a meeting with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Islamic Consultative Assembly), Dr Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who called on the Prime Minister along with his delegation on Friday.
Welcoming the visitors, the Prime Minister recalled the longstanding and cordial ties between the two neighbouring countries, describing Iran as a brotherly Muslim state with deep historical, cultural and religious bonds with Pakistan. He reaffirmed the two nations’ firm resolve to pursue peace through dialogue and diplomacy for the resolution of global and regional disputes.
Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed deep respect for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and President Masoud Pazeshkian. He said both Pakistan and Iran have been victims of terrorism and have consistently stood by each other in the face of unilateral aggression against their sovereignty. The Prime Minister reiterated that both countries firmly reject state-sponsored terrorism and remain committed to regional peace, prosperity and constructive cooperation.
He further said Pakistan was keen to strengthen collaboration with Iran in areas of mutual interest, particularly economic development and bilateral trade.
Iran appreciates Pakistan’s support
Dr Ghalibaf thanked the Prime Minister, the government and the people of Pakistan for their “valued and well-placed” support to Iran during the recent Iran-Israel conflict. He said the people of Iran deeply appreciated Pakistan’s solidarity during the 12-day confrontation, which reflected the two nations’ shared belief in Muslim unity and global peace.
The Iranian Speaker also expressed gratitude to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for his efforts in enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in economic and trade sectors.
Dr Ghalibaf conveyed warm greetings and good wishes from Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian to the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan, thanking the government for its gracious hospitality during his visit.
