Pakistan kicks off joint military exercises with Russia, Oman

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army on Tuesday kicked off joint military exercises with Russia and Oman forces at Cherat and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pabbi, respectively, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The ninth edition of the Pakistan-Russia joint exercise, Druzhba-IX, is being held at Cherat, while the second edition of the Pakistan-Oman joint exercise, Washaq Al Jabal-II (Mountain Lynx-II), is taking place at NCTC Pabbi, according to ISPR.

The two-week exercises bring together contingents from the Pakistan Army, Russian Army and Royal Army of Oman.

According to ISPR, the exercises aim to provide the participating forces with an opportunity to share operational experience, refine counter-terrorism drills and procedures, and enhance interoperability.

Through joint training and the exchange of best practices, the participating forces will further develop their combat skills and tactical expertise.

The exercises will also contribute to strengthening defence cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, and Pakistan and Oman, ISPR said.
