ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the US chargé d’affaires in Islamabad to lodge a “strong demarche” over recent remarks made by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who characterised the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir as a “part of India” during his visit to the territory.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO), Islamabad “strongly condemned and categorically rejected” the ambassador’s characterisation.
The FO underscored that Jammu and Kashmir remains an “internationally recognised disputed territory, awaiting final disposition in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people”.

According to the diplomatic press release, Pakistani officials informed the American envoy that Ambassador Gor’s “irresponsible statement” directly negated Washington’s long-standing, well-documented position on the dispute. The FO added that the envoy’s remarks ran contrary to the United States’ stated commitment to the supremacy of international law and the UN Charter.
While appreciating US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate between Islamabad and New Delhi following the aftermath of Marka-e-Haq, the ministry urged Washington to ensure that its public statements remain strictly consistent with the established disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
