Pakistan, NATO reaffirm to strengthen ties during high-level talks in Brussels


WEB DESK: Pakistan and NATO have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral military cooperation following the conclusion of the 12th Round of Military Staff Talks held at the NATO Headquarters.

The high-level dialogue served as a platform to navigate the complexities of regional security and explore fresh avenues for institutional collaboration between the South Asian nation and the North Atlantic alliance.

Strategic dialogue and regional stability

The Pakistan delegation was led by the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Syed Aamer Raza, while the NATO side was headed by Major General Eray Üngüder, Director of the International Military Staff’s Cooperative Security Division.

Central to the discussions was a comprehensive review of the prevailing regional security landscape. Both parties exchanged perspectives on stability in South Asia and the broader implications of global security shifts.

The talks underscored a mutual interest in maintaining a persistent channel of communication to address shared challenges, reflecting a long-standing partnership that continues to evolve in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

Enhancing Interoperability and Military Education

Beyond strategic assessments, the deliberations focused heavily on practical military-to-military engagement. Both sides explored expanded opportunities for training, education, and joint exercise activities designed to foster greater interoperability between their armed forces.

The talks highlighted the importance of professional military education as a cornerstone for future cooperation.

Following the sessions in Brussels, the Pakistani delegation also visited the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium NATO’s primary strategic command to gain deeper insights into the alliance’s operational frameworks and command structures.
