RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Navy has successfully launched the fourth Hangor-class submarine, Ghazi, at Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), with the launch of Ghazi, the Pakistan Navy has crossed another important milestone.
“All four Hangor-class submarines being built in China are now undergoing rigorous sea trials,” the ISPR said.
The statement said that the Hangor-class submarines are in the final stages of preparation for delivery to Pakistan. Under the existing agreement with China, Pakistan is acquiring eight Hangor-class submarines.
As per the agreement, four submarines are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited under a technology transfer program.
These modern submarines are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, capable of striking targets at long distances. The Hangor-class submarines are expected to play a key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials from both Pakistan and China, reflecting the deepening defence and naval cooperation between the two countries.
Pakistan signed an agreement with CSOC to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan.
