WEB DESK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan is playing a highly sincere role in mediating between the United States and Iran, noting that significant ground has already been covered with developments moving in the right direction.
The Prime Minister shared these remarks during delegation-level talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Monday, against the backdrop of a highly critical global climate and ongoing instability in the Gulf, according to Radio Pakistan.
Expressing gratitude to the Chinese leadership for supporting Islamabad’s peace initiatives, Mr Sharif also endorsed President Xi Jinping’s four-point agenda for global security and called for collective international action to restore peace.
He particularly lauded the tireless diplomatic and strategic efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in advancing the mediation process.
Celebrating 75 years of bilateral ties
Turning to bilateral relations, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that both nations are currently celebrating 75 years of a glorious friendship, first established by their respective founding fathers.
He emphasized that the current leadership remains deeply committed to honoring that historical legacy and further advancing the journey of bilateral and strategic cooperation.
Condolences over Shanxi mine tragedy
During the high-level meeting, the Prime Minister also expressed his deepest condolences to Premier Li and the people of China over a tragic gas explosion at a coal mine in Shanxi province.
Extending the full solidarity of the Pakistani nation, he stated that their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the grieving families.
Earlier, upon his arrival at the Great Hall of the People, Sharif was formally received by the Chinese Premier and presented with a traditional guard of honor.
