Pakistan PM calls Iranian president, urges de-escalation and dialogue

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, discussing bilateral relations and the regional situation, officials said.
During the conversation, Sharif briefed the Iranian leadership on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting a ceasefire and reducing tensions. He conveyed greetings to the Iranian president and the people of Iran on the occasions of Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz, which Pezeshkian reciprocated with warm wishes for the Pakistani people.
Sharif expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Iranian people in the context of ongoing regional tensions, extending condolences for lives lost and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The prime minister voiced concern over the deteriorating situation in the Gulf region and urged all parties to pursue dialogue and diplomacy to resolve issues peacefully. He also highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation within the Muslim world, emphasizing that mutual harmony is essential in the current circumstances.
Sharif assured Iranian leaders that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace, stability, and a constructive role in the region.
Amid the escalating tension, Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt have reportedly acted as diplomatic intermediaries.
Senior officials from these countries held separate discussions with U.S. representatives, including diplomat Steve Otstkoff, and with Iran’s foreign minister. Turkey’s foreign minister also spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart, addressing recent developments in the Middle East.
