Pakistan, Qatar reaffirm strategic partnership in high-level meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional and global developments, according to an official statement.

The two leaders reaffirmed the strong fraternal ties between Pakistan and Qatar and expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in political, economic and institutional cooperation.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.

The leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence, manpower and labour, and cultural exchanges.

They agreed on the need to accelerate collaboration in these sectors through a joint task force between the two countries.

Both sides stressed the importance of implementing decisions taken during recent high-level engagements, including those under the Joint Ministerial Commission and bilateral political consultations.

Regional issues, including developments in Gaza and broader Gulf security matters, were also discussed.

Sharif appreciated Qatar’s constructive diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation in the region.

The two leaders underscored the importance of peaceful resolution of disputes and adherence to international law, including the United Nations Charter, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Qatar while maintaining close coordination on bilateral, regional and international issues.
