WEB DESK: A high-level meeting held at the Sialkot International Airport (SIAL) Secretariat on January 28 focused on strengthening air connectivity between Pakistan and Russia.
Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev, along with Russian Trade Representative Denis Nevzorov, met SIAL Chairman Hassan Ali Bhatti to discuss practical steps toward resuming direct flights between the two countries, with an emphasis on boosting people-to-people links, trade, tourism and business cooperation.
Ambassador Khorev expressed appreciation for the modern infrastructure and facilities at SIAL, Pakistan’s first private international airport. He noted its strategic location in the industrial heartland of Punjab and emphasised its potential to serve as a key hub for enhanced bilateral aviation links.
Chairman Bhatti warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed SIAL’s readiness to support the resumption of direct air services. He highlighted the airport’s state-of-the-art capabilities in handling both passenger and cargo traffic, which could facilitate smoother and more frequent connections to Russian destinations.
The discussions underscored a mutual interest in deepening economic and regional cooperation, building on existing trade momentum, and advancing the shared vision of reliable air connectivity.
This engagement reflects positive momentum in Pakistan-Russia relations, with the potential resumption of direct flights expected to create new opportunities in commerce, cultural exchange, and regional collaboration. SIAL stands poised to serve as a practical bridge connecting the two nations.
