The ICJ is conducting the hearing based on a request from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The case, initiated by South Africa, has been ongoing at the ICJ for the past four days.
The current conflict began when Israel launched an invasion and started striking the blockaded Gaza Strip which has killed more than 28,000 Palestinians so far. Israel declared war on Hamas when the group launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and took more than 240 people hostage.
