ISLAMABAD/ANKARA/CAIRO: Diplomatic efforts to reduce rising tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified, with Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt playing key mediation roles, sources said on Monday.
Senior officials from the three countries held separate talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
The talks focused not only on de-escalating hostilities but also on the potential resolution of ongoing disputes and the possibility of ending the conflict altogether.
Confidence-building measures between the parties were also under consideration.
“The mediation role of Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan is crucial. These countries are committed to regional stability and actively working to prevent any major escalation,” one source said.
The diplomatic process is ongoing, with officials hopeful that tangible progress will be made in the coming days. Efforts are being described as serious and focused on resolving disagreements through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The international community has been closely monitoring the talks, expressing hope that they could contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
In related developments, Fox News reported that talks with Iran over a possible agreement took place on Sunday night, involving US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said it continues to work with regional and international partners to ease tensions and urged all parties to prioritize negotiations, welcoming the initiative taken by US President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Minister held a telephone call with his Iranian counterpart, during which the two discussed the recent situation in the Middle East, sources said.
