WEB DESK: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday met British Deputy Foreign Secretary Hamish Falconer, with both sides discussing bilateral relations, regional developments and avenues for enhanced cooperation, particularly in security and institutional capacity-building.
During the meeting, the British deputy foreign secretary lauded Pakistan’s role in supporting regional stability and its contribution towards recent understandings between global powers, terming it constructive for peace efforts.
He also noted that the prime minister and the field marshal had played what he described as a “historic role” in advancing peace in the region, adding that the Iran-US understanding had helped project Pakistan as a responsible stakeholder in global peace initiatives.
Mohsin Naqvi, in turn, said Pakistan remained committed to strengthening cooperation with the United Kingdom across multiple sectors, particularly policing and institutional training.
He stressed that efforts against human trafficking were being pursued without discrimination and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to dismantle organised criminal networks.
Both sides also agreed to expand collaboration in law enforcement training and capacity building, while expressing a shared commitment to addressing the issue of fraudulent student visas through coordinated measures.
Human trafficking and counter-terror concerns
The interior minister also briefed the visiting dignitary on security challenges, stating that several terrorist organisations were operating from Afghan soil.
He urged the Afghan authorities to ensure that their territory was not used for terrorism against neighbouring countries.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close engagement on security, migration management and regional peace initiatives.
