Pakistan unveils new tank

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, in collaboration with China, has unveiled the ‘Haider’ tank, a new addition to its arsenal that boasts cutting-edge technology and formidable combat capabilities.

Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir attended the rollout ceremony at Heavy Industries Taxila, marking a significant achievement in Pakistan’s defense manufacturing.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that the ‘Haider’ tank is a testament to the strong military cooperation between Pakistan and China, combining local manufacturing prowess with advanced technological inputs.

The tank is equipped with exceptional firepower, robust protection, and a suite of advanced features, underscoring the prowess of Pakistan’s defense sector.

During his visit, General Munir inspected various installations at the Heavy Industries Taxila complex, lauding the dedication and resolve of the officers and staff involved in reaching this pivotal milestone.

The military cooperation between Pakistan and China has been a cornerstone of their strategic partnership. Over the years, this collaboration has included joint development and production of military equipment, arms transfers, and strategic support.

Notably, the two nations have co-produced the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet and collaborated on various other defense projects1.

China has become Pakistan’s most significant defense partner since the end of the Cold War, supplying a range of conventional weapons and strategic platforms. The relationship is characterized by frequent military exercises, increasing interoperability, and discussions on potential military basing arrangements.

This partnership is part of the broader China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiatives, which aim to deepen the ‘all-weather’ strategic ties between the two countries.

The unveiling of the ‘Haider’ tank is the latest example of this deepening military cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to defence and security in the region.
