ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has warned the Afghan Taliban regime and terrorist groups that any further provocations will be met with a “measured, decisive and befitting response.
The statement came after Pakistan carried out targeted operations against terrorist logistical centres in Afghanistan following a surge in cross-border attacks.
The Foreign Office said the actions were taken under Pakistan’s right to self-defence and to ensure the safety of its citizens, as well as the wider region.
“These actions were necessary to protect our people and to maintain regional security. Any further provocations by the Taliban regime, or attempts by any terrorist group to undermine the security and welfare of the people of Pakistan, will be met with a measured, decisive and befitting response,” the statement said.
The Foreign Office expressed concern over the rising number of attacks originating from Afghan territory, which it said were being supported by the Afghan Taliban government and India. Pakistan also called on Kabul to take action against groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan.
Pakistan stressed that the international community must send a clear message to the Taliban regime and that concrete and verifiable measures against terrorist organisations are needed. The country reiterated that its right to self-defence is preserved under the United Nations Charter.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan remains committed to peace and stability in the region but will continue all necessary measures to protect its citizens.
