SHARJAH: Saim Ayub’s explosive half-century and Hasan Nawaz’s blistering knock powered Pakistan to 207 all out in their allotted 20 overs against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second tri-nation series fixture on Saturday.

Pakistan’s skipper, Salman Ali Agha, chose to bat first after winning the toss. He said his team aimed to post a big total to put the opposition under pressure.

After Sahibzada Farhan fell early for 8, Saim Ayub took charge with a dazzling 69 off just 38 balls, hitting seven fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 181.57.

He was well supported by youngster Hasan Nawaz, who smashed 56 off only 26 deliveries, lacing his innings with two boundaries and six towering sixes.

Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with a handy 25 off 15, while Faheem Ashraf added a quick 16 off 10 to push Pakistan past the 200-run mark.

However, the side lost momentum towards the end, slipping from 161-4 in the 16th over to 207 all out in the final over.

For the hosts, Junaid Siddique and Saghir Khan were the pick of the bowlers, grabbing three wickets apiece, though both proved expensive, conceding 49 and 44 runs respectively. Haider Ali claimed 2-32 in his four overs.

With 208 required for victory, the UAE face a stiff chase against Pakistan’s pace-heavy attack.

Pakistan made a commanding start to the tri-nation series and currently hold the top spot on the points table as they thrashed Afghanistan by 39 runs in the opening match.

For UAE clash, Pakistan made two changes to their playing XI, resting pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf for the fixture. They were replaced by fast bowlers Hasan Ali and Salman Mirza.
